During the Digestive Disease Week 2015, the assistant professor of the University of Ottawa, Eric I. Bechimol, MD, made certain that “rural household at diagnosis is associated with lower risk of IBD in Canada”, specially among children.
To make that statement, Benchimol examined the 52% of the Canadian population and took a birth cohort of children born after 1991, to identify the rate of risk of developing IBD associated with rural or urban exposure in the first 5 years of life.
